News: Subic Freeport Set to Boost Economy -
16 Aug 2010
With a total of 15 operational piers and wharves capable of servicing all kinds of vessels, the Subic Freeport is all set to boost the country’s economy.
Over the years the Subic seaport has played a major role in importing and exporting various products in and out of the country. The Freeport has also been helping out in decongesting Manila’s international container port terminals as its serves as an alternative point of shipping for Northern and Central Luzon.
After officials of the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) were recently reported by the Commission on Audit (CoA) of awarding themselves with extra generous salaries and allowances, cargo handlers at the Subic Freeport are distancing themselves from the controversy, saying that the privately owned Subic cargo handling operations have become the backbone of a progressive Subic international seaport.
