The Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong has lauded Cebu Pacificís (CEB) direct service from Iloilo to Hong Kong which started on Friday.
Cebu Pacificís inaugural flight to Iloilo left Hong Kong on Friday with 57 passengers led by Philippine Consul General to Hong Kong Noel Servigon.
Servigon said the passengers were mostly Filipino workers in Hong Kong as well as various leaders and members of the Filipino Community whose hometown is Iloilo.
He thanked Cebu Pacific for pursuing the Hong Kong-Iloilo route, which is significant that would make the Filipinos in Hong Kong closer to home, attract more tourists to the Philippines, and encourage economic activity between Hong Kong and the Philippines with Iloilo as a hub.
The inaugural flight was a milestone for Iloilo tourism and officials hope that this route will enhance the visitor arrivals from Hong Kong to the Philippines.
From January to September this year, 88,393 visitors from Hong Kong traveled to the Philippines, up by 5.08% from the same period in 2011.
Hong Kong imported $22.6 million worth of mangoes from the Philippines in 2011. Consul General Servigon noted that mango producers in Western Visayas can boost the export numbers by taking advantage of the direct flight. Other products such as crab meat and raw cane sugar present many opportunities to boost trade. (EHL)
