15 Nov 2007
DuPont in the Philippines is expecting a 15 percent growth in revenue for 2007 as it focuses on new business development in 2008.
The company would introduce innovative products and sustainable solutions next year aimed for untapped markets.
These new products include its new generation hybrid corn seeds, the full year launching of Prevathon, a new environmentally pesticide, the easy to use, non-ozone depleting HFC refrigerant — ISCEON, and the selective barrier technology of Tyvek among others.
DuPont attributed its growth to both the Philippine economy and the new business development model.
"The positive outlook of the following industries contributed to the business growth. The strong inflow in OFW remittances, which is estimated to be valued at USbillion and the availability of government funds for public infrastructure development, boosted the growth of the construction industry."
The new and additional investments for mining and the 5 to 10 percent growth in the electronics industry also have a factor for the positive growth in DuPont.
On the other hand, the transformation of DuPont this year to a country-run business model provided opportunities for the company to improve its market coverage and to "go where the growth is".
The name DuPont is still unfamiliar to many Filipinos, but a cellular phone contains up to 14 DuPont products that help make a smaller, lighter and more reliable handheld device.
Cellular phone manufacturers source the raw materials used to make these essential gadgets from the company.
With almost every Filipino sending an average of seven text messages a day, DuPont is an integral part of a Filipino’s everyday activities, whether one realizes it or not.DuPont was not always the tech giant it is today. It began as a gunpowder mill along the shores of the Brandywine River in Delaware, USA 200 years ago.
Founded by a young French immigrant named Eleuthère Irénée du Pont de Nemours, the company flourished. By the early 1990s, it had begun diversifying its product offerings.
DuPont began to explore other areas of industrial growth, establishing its first research facility in 1911. Manned by scientists and engineers, the facility was the first step towards the commitment of DuPont to scientific research as a basis for its product development.
It was here that the company’s first synthetic fabric product, Fabrikoid, was perfected. A fauxleather fabric, it soon became the material of choice of upholsterers across the nation.
Today, Fabrikoid is the choice of material for quality book coverings, protecting the legacy of knowledge for generations to come.
Following this success, the company continued to invest in more research facilities. Cultivating a company culture geared towards innovation and discovery, DuPont strategically transformed its business from chemicals, materials and energy to a sciencebased products and services company.
DuPont came to the Philippines in 1973, as Du Pont Far East Inc.-Philippines. Its core markets include agriculture and nutrition, building specialties, automotive, food, beverage and packaging, industrial, chemicals and electronics.
