The private sector gave P4 billion in contributions last year to the Adopt-A-School program of the Department of Education.
“The private sector has been responding well to our call for greater involvement in improving basic education. We thank our Adopt-A-School program benefactors even as we appeal for more partners,” Education Secretary Jesli Lapus said.
The program seeks to mobilize the private sector “to prioritize education in their corporate social responsibility efforts,” said program head Angelico Mercader.
Of the total contribution of P4 billion, the biggest share went to health and nutrition with P2.3 billion, benefiting 42,000 students nationwide.
Technology support to education got P1.3 billion with 6,849 school recipients. Training and professional development was allotted P15.3 million with 614 school recipients and P24.6 million was allocated for the improvement and expansion of the infrastructure and physical facilities of 56 public schools.
