News: Online trading spawns new breed of stock investors here -
04 May 2008
A continuing retail investor education program undertaken by leading online stock brokerage firm CitisecOnline (COL) is helping raise up a new breed of stock market investors ready to make the most of opportunities offered by volatile financial markets. Over the past two years, several thousands have attended COL’s Investor Seminar Series on the basics of stock investing, how to trade online and introduction to technical analysis. Beginning and veteran investors alike attend the company’s regular fora and industry assessment sessions. Businessmen, housewives, employees, students, entrepreneurs, overseas Filipino workers, preachers, policemen and the like learn about the industries as well as specific companies offering the best opportunities for the period.
Until recently, investors like Billie Syling, who with her husband runs a family business supplying industrial mills, used to rely on a broker for advice and to execute trades. She found it frustrating when her conversation with the broker would often be interrupted by telephone calls from his other clients. Moreover, it would take a while for her broker to buy and sell stocks for her so she would often not be able to trade at the prices she wanted.
The Internet which provides information and automated access to the stock market changed all that for her. Through CitisecOnline, she now gets company and stock market information on real time. She appreciates that she can check issues traded, volume of transactions and even find out who are buying and selling.
Catholic preacher Bo Sanchez was one of those who took up CitisecOnline’s challenge to learn more about online stock trading even if did not have any financial training. He attended a COL seminar in March 2007 and since then has been buying selected shares from what he believes are solid, enduring and growing companies. Bo takes five to 10 minutes each day from his busy schedule as leader of a large Catholic charismatic community, international speaker, TV host and family man to check his stocks. "I take a peek to see what’s happening. I buy about once or twice a month, and much more when prices are down."
Having forayed into stock trading at a time of market volatility, Sanchez is holding on to his stocks and buying more, applying basic stock trading principles he learned at COL’s seminar. He intends to cash in on his investments at a more opportune time and encourages all to become more financially literate through programs like CitisecOnline’s education seminars.
